Scope and Contents: Consists of committee files received from a variety of sources. Generally these are records kept by faculty members during service on various college or faculty committees. For example, most of the files for the Standing Committee on Pluralism and Equality were transferred from the William P. Norris Papers.
Miscellaneous committee files (A-Z), largely up to 1961 (some single items dated to 1972), are to be found in Box 1. The arrangement is alphabetical. Boxes 2-99 contain the committee files, mostly from the period 1962 to present, and these files too, are arranged first alphabetically, then chronologically. Some file units, however, may date back to 1945 (i.e., E.P.C.). The alphabetical sequence on occasion has been broken in order to keep concrete, larger units together in one box. Researchers also should realize that these are loose files, and that the minutes, etc., often have not been segregated into subseries. Committees also may be frequently called or referred to by more than one name. For additional information on the structure of committees at Oberlin College, researchers should consult the Committee Lists, produced by the Office of Secretary, appearing in College General (RG 0), Series 21, Box 1. (After 1994, "The Committees" [Committee Book] appears annually in the Oberlin College Directory.) These lists or committee books identify the committees for the main divisions of the college, and thereunder list who served as a member of the respective committee.
